Your Questions, Answered

I work with people who want to understand what’s happening beneath the surface - not just to feel better momentarily, but to make real, lasting changes in how they relate to themselves and others. Therapy with me is not about “getting over it” or forcing positivity. It is about slowing down enough to notice patterns as they arise, including in the therapy room, and working with them honestly and collaboratively.
I aim to offer a grounded, engaged presence that is warm, but also real. I’m interested in your strengths and in the places where things get stuck, and I believe meaningful change happens when we can stay present with discomfort rather than avoid it or perform around it. This work asks for participation: curiosity about yourself, willingness to reflect, and openness to noticing your own role in relational patterns.
Above all, I am open to your feedback. I view this process as a collaborative one.

The first step is to click on the “Schedule a free consult” button and drop me a quick email. I’ll respond within 48 hours M-F to ask a few preliminary questions and see if you want to schedule a consult from there. Consults last approximately 20-30 minutes and can be done over the phone or video. I do not offer in-person consults.

First therapy sessions with me are focused on building rapport, getting to know you, answering any questions you have, and setting expectations for the work. To that end, I will generally share a little about how I approach the work, my thoughts on whatever goals you’ve shared with me and how to work towards them, and I will ask if you have any questions about the intake process or informed consent. I typically ask more questions than usual in the first session and will ask about your personal history. I keep things pretty casual and follow your lead as far as how much detail to get into.

In a word, sometimes, yes.
The therapeutic relationship is different from any other relationship in your life. It’s not as formal as a typical professional relationship, yet it’s more boundaried than one with friends or family.
At the same time, the therapeutic process is, in its nature, uncomfortable. Growth rarely happens with ease and effortlessness, though it can still feel meaningful and good. Growth happens through meeting internal challenges with awareness and support.
Therapy can be confronting, and when approached at your own pace, that is often where change becomes possible. By uncovering shadowed or recessed parts of ourselves - however slowly we may choose to do so - we metabolize fragments of unresolved experience and begin to embody more of who we are. This is what brings us into deeper relationship with ourselves and with others.
A caveat: while good therapy may at times be uncomfortable, it is also meant to stay within tolerable limits. This isn’t about pushing past your capacity or grinning and bearing it. It’s about finding your edge and meeting it with care, together.
